Karachi: National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) in collaboration with the Local Government Saddar Town, organized a beach-cleaning program here at the Beach View Park near Dolmen City, Clifton to raise awareness regarding marine pollution and aquatic life.
More than 200 school children from six different schools, NGO representative, dignitaries and volunteers participated in the campaign and took part in the cleaning of beach. An area of about 300 meters was cleaned during the campaign.
President NFEH Naeem Qureshi, while speaking on the occasion, said that the aim of the activity was to create awareness among masses, particularly the school children. He said only 150 m/g/d is treated while 450 m/g/d is released in the sea without treatment which is increasing pollution in the sea and threats the marine life.
Lack of planning and negligence by the government are the reasons behind the situation, he said. Qureshi said only 20 percent industries are implementing the environmental laws.
